Qualification Description
The BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management is a nationally recognised qualification that provides individuals with specialised leadership and management skills required for senior roles in various industries. The qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply their expertise to lead teams, develop strategic plans, manage change, and drive business growth.
Successful graduates of this qualification will gain the confidence to manage, innovate, and implement strategies within their organisations. Units of Competency
The BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management consists of 10 units: 5 core units and 5 elective units.
Core Units:
- BSBCRT611 – Apply critical thinking for complex problem solving
- BSBLDR601 – Lead and manage organisational change
- BSBLDR602 – Provide leadership across the organisation
- BSBOPS601 – Develop and implement business plans
- BSBSTR601 – Manage innovation and continuous improvement
Elective Units:
- BSBSTR602 – Develop organisational strategies
- BSBHRM614 – Contribute to strategic workforce planning
- BSBFIN601 – Manage organisational finances
- BSBINS601 – Manage knowledge and information
- BSBOPS504 – Manage business risk
Award Upon Completion
Students obtaining a competent result for all 10 units of competency will achieve the nationally recognised award: BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management.
Students completing fewer than 10 units will receive a Statement of Attainment specifying the units completed.
Previous Recognitions
We offer Credit Transfer (CT) to students who provide evidential documentation of having completed unit(s) of competency through prior formal study. Candidates with prior experience can be assessed based on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

- Fees apply for assessing unit(s) of competency based on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Enrolment Pre-Requisites
Entry to this qualification is limited to those who:
- Have completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma from the BSB Training Package (current or superseded equivalent versions); or
- Have two years of equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience in an operational or leadership role in an enterprise.
Additionally, successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent is recommended. Relevant work experience will be considered for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessments.
Training Package Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification as per the training package.
Licensing Requirements
No licensing, legislative, or certification requirements apply to this qualification.
Recommended Entry Pathway
It is recommended that students planning to enrol in the BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management hold a Diploma in Leadership and Management (or higher) or have demonstrated the ability to:
- Communicate clearly
- Lead and supervise teams
- Apply technology literacy in the industry
However, students without the aforementioned qualifications and/or work experience are also eligible to enrol if they can demonstrate significant involvement in a senior support role within the industry over the last two years.
Course Details
- Course Duration: 18 months full-time study, or equivalent part-time study.
- Study Commitment: 20 hours per week, including attendance/participation and directed study. Additional hours of self-directed study may be required.
- Assessment Types: All vocational courses are assessed through a combination of assessment types, including:
- Examinations
- Essays
- Reports
- Group tasks
- Portfolios
- Presentations
- Attendance: An individual training plan will be provided upon enrolment. Your plan will outline the recommended study timetable and detail your units and assessments.
Delivery & Assessment
This qualification is delivered through a blended learning model, which combines face-to-face and online learning.
- Electronic copies of all relevant course materials and assessments will be provided.
- The primary method of submission for completed assessments will be via email.

Further Study
Completion of the BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management provides a pathway towards a bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or Commerce. Graduates are eligible to apply for enrolment into bachelor programs at eligible institutions and may receive advanced standing of up to 12 units.
